New performance framework to replace employee development reviews (EDRs)
Fri, 25 Mar 2022

In April 2022 a new performance framework will replace the EDR process.

Staff and managers highlighted clear opportunities for improvement to the EDR process in consultation. As a result, the new process will focus on past and future performance and include:

  • feedback from managers about the work people do
  • discussion of service goals and objectives
  • communication about and involvement in any change
  • wellbeing discussions.

There are two parts to the new performance framework; performance reviews and check-ins. Performance reviews will take place at least once a year and check-ins will be held more frequently, to ensure for more consistently regular conversation between all staff and their managers. At check-ins, staff can expect to discuss their wellbeing, job, learning and future.

Managers can prepare for the new performance reviews by:

Further guidance on how to deliver performance reviews and check-ins will be shared with managers soon. New sections of Insight are being developed to provide support and guidance including new wellbeing information specifically to support managers and staff to establish their check-ins.
