Bike security and safety high on the agenda at Beverley event this weekend
Mon, 09 May 2022

The council's safer communities team has arranged a free event this weekend which will provide free tips and advice on registering your bike with the BikeRegister.com.

The event will take place at East Riding Leisure Centre in Beverley on Saturday 14 May 2022 between 10am - 12pm.

The local Neighbourhood Policing Team will be in attendance to register cycles and in addition provide free cycle marking and security advice

Safer Roads Humber will also attend to discuss how to stay safe whilst out cycling in the East Riding.

Registering on BikeRegister means you could be reunited with your bike in the event of it being stolen. It does not, however, help make it a hard target to thieves.

To reduce the chances of becoming a victim of cycle theft, you can purchase one of the Security Marking Kits.

Your details are held on a secure online database which all UK Police Forces have access to.

BikeRegister is a family-run company operated by Selectamark Security Systems plc, a market leader in the field of property marking and asset identification, which offers products including the revolutionary SelectaDNA, a powerful crime reduction system used all over the world.

Selectamark purchased BikeRegister in October 2001 and combined the bikeregister.com database with its own Bicycle Security Register (BSR) - which was formed in 1992 - to form the largest bicycle register in the UK.

BikeRegister's significant growth has occurred in the last 8 years. It is now recognised as the National Cycle Database and is used by all UK Police Forces. In January 2021 BikeRegister achieved the significant milestone of achieving over 1 million bikes registered on the database.
