SAFEPLACE Week: Health & wellbeing day
Fri, 25 Oct 2019

Today (Friday 25 October) is the final day of SAFEPLACE Week, the annual health and safety awareness week for all staff in Communities & Environment.

Staff in C&E have been taking part in a week of events and activities highlighting the vital role health, safety and wellbeing plays in everyone’s day to day working life.

Today is ... Health & wellbeing day.

Today’s topic is an increasingly important one – the mental health and wellbeing of our staff.

We all want to work in a healthy and happy environment, but some of our colleagues are sometimes suffering in silence.

We can all be more aware of the signs and we can all do more to help. Stress and depression are an increasing problem in the workplace.

After operations and back-pain, stress is one of the most common reasons for long-term sick leave.

Tasks to do today:

  • Check staff health and safety learning and development needs are being met. EDRs are due this month so it’s an ideal time to check on staff needs and to do the employee wellbeing assessment.
  • Promote or take part in a healthy initiative
  • Book an annual health check – available at East Riding Leisure Centres.
