If you are feeling stressed or anxious in your job role or personal life, you may find a mindfulness session useful to help you to improve your wellbeing, relieve stress and learn techniques to help you relax.

Mindfulness is a type of meditation. It focuses on your awareness of the present moment, while acknowledging and accepting your feelings, thoughts, and bodily sensations. Practicing mindfulness involves:

  • breathing methods
  • guided imagery
  • paying attention to your thoughts and sounds
  • techniques to relax the body and mind helping to reduce stress.

8-week courses

We also run some mindfulness courses that include an introductory workshop, followed by an 8-week course. These are targeted at different audiences, open to everyone or a more specific group such as managers or leaders. You must attend the introductory workshop as this will confirm to you whether this course would be useful to you before committing to the 8-week programme. Once you have signed up for the 8-week course, it is important that you attend each session as spaces are limited and cost the council.

Our upcoming courses cover health and wellbeing, compassionate care for those working in caring roles and mind training for all staff and managers.

These courses are currently being held virtually via Zoom.

How to apply

You can apply for the introductory session and 8-week courses on our course finder. Simply login and search for '8WeekMindfulness' in the 'Keywords' field and find your chosen course.
