Next week is SAFEPLACE Week
Fri, 18 Oct 2019

Next week is an important week for staff across the whole of the Communities and Environment directorate, as it’s SAFEPLACE Week.

The 11th annual health and safety initiative runs from 21 to 25 October and highlights the vital role health, safety and wellbeing plays in everyone’s day to day working life.

Formerly known as DENSafe Week, the new name SAFEPLACE Week reflects the change the directorate underwent earlier this year, when Environment and Neighbourhood Services became Communities and Environment (C&E).

All staff in C&E are encouraged to get involved by taking part in some of the events being held during SAFEPLACE Week.

Events include:

  • The SAFEPLACE Seminar for 100 frontline staff at Bishop Burton College on Wednesday 23 October.
  • Annual health and safety inspections by senior managers.
  • Driver Awareness and Risk Management training for over 200 staff.
  • Tool Box talks.
  • Take part or learning more about the council’s Live Well Work Well initiatives.

Every day throughout the week a different topic will be covered in emails and on the Intranet:

Monday 21 October – STOP and think day - at 9.08am, stop and think for a moment about your own health and safety

Tuesday 22 OctoberSAFE SITE day

Wednesday 23 October – SAFE EQUIPMENT day

Thursday 24 October – SAFE DRIVING day

Friday 25 October – HEALTH & WELLBEING day

Toolbox Talks

  • Next week managers will be hosting some of the regular Toolbox Talks sessions.
  • These are bite-sized training sessions on different aspects of health and safety for all teams and services to talk about and discuss in groups.
  • There is a library of more than 30 topics available and all are about key hazards and risks which staff can face. Take 15 minutes to go through a topic each day in your teams.
  • This year we’ve updated the Driver Awareness Toolbox Talk.
  • Search Insight for ‘toolbox talks’ or visit https://insight.eastriding.gov.uk/directorates/ens/health-safety/tool-box-talks/ to access them.
