SAFEPLACE Week: SAFE site day
Tue, 22 Oct 2019

This week is SAFEPLACE Week, the annual health and safety awareness week for all staff in Communities & Environment Services.

A week of events and activities are planned to highlight the vital role health, safety and wellbeing plays in everyone’s day to day working life.

Today (Tuesday 22 October) is ... SAFE Site Day.

Today will focus on healthy sites and having a safe and healthy workplace environment.

Across C&E we have a very wide variety of workplaces, each with their own risks.

The directorate’s annual schedule of health and safety inspections and visits ensures that all workplaces have at least one senior manager inspection per year as well as the daily, weekly and monthly checks that are done to identify hazards and control risks in the workplace.

Tasks to do today:

  • Make sure you know where the nearest first aiders and fire wardens are.
  • Do you know how to use a defibrillator and where the nearest one is?
  • Declutter your workspace as part of site inspections.
  • Check you have an environmental management system in place for recycling schemes, waste management, travelling plans, ethical purchasing.
