The results are in… do we love sprouts or hate them?

It seems our staff love their sprouts!

106 – I love sprouts, the more the merrier

15 – I always give them to the person next to me

24 – Keep them away from my plate

Incidentally, this poll has had our highest interaction rate of all the polls we’ve posted in the last few months. So, next time we have a fun poll we’re dying to find out how many of you say ‘scone’ as in ‘gone’ or ‘scone’ as in ‘cone’... and we know from office debate that this will be a close call!

Back to the project...

To help summarise how we’ve dealt with your feedback over the past few months, we thought we’d share some of your comments and queries, and show you how we’ve addressed them.

You said…

your custom homepage settings were not saving when you closed your browser.

We’ve…

found that this was an issue with Internet Explorer only, but we have built a new database to record when you make a change to the layout of your homepage so we can apply those settings when you next open the intranet.

You said…

that you’ve been finding it hard to find specific information using the search.

We’ve…

been working to remove as many blank or out-of-date pages from the intranet as possible. This is important as these pages are often returned in the search results. Now we’ve removed them, you are more likely to get the results you expect.

We’ve also looked at all your feedback and added more search terms to the ‘Search as you type’ function.

We have a long way to go with the search as it is affected by all the pages and documents we have on the intranet, but we’re happy to continue making small improvements while we work on the bigger picture. So please keep sending through your feedback!

the current jobs feed in the recruitment and retention section wasn’t updating.

We’ve…

updated the database query to return jobs by publish date rather than earliest date the job was added. Therefore the jobs change on a daily basis.

You said…

you couldn’t access the policies and procedures section.

We’ve…

added a button to the corporate panel for ‘policies and procedures’, we’ve also added one for ‘strategies and plans’.

You said…

it was hard to find the phonebook and that you’d prefer that it was at the top of the page.

We’ve…

added a link to the top of the page (in the header) so you can access it much quicker. Just hit the icon and the page will move down to the ‘Popular tools’ panel – if you’ve closed the panel, it will open automatically.

We’ve also changed the colour of the phonebook to make it easier to spot. Finally, the ability to reorder the page as discussed above will allow you to move it higher up the page.

You said…

you couldn’t find the forms that you regularly use such as ‘Rail and hotel booking’ or ‘External qualifications, conferences and training’.

We’ve…

changed the name of the My Apps panel to My Apps and Forms, and added buttons for the most popular forms.

A new way to find policies

The biggest piece of work we’ve done in the last month is a new directory for policies and procedures. Consultation over the last few years found that this was one of the biggest issues affecting all staff – that they couldn't be found easily and that there were multiple versions returned in the search.

We’ve only added HR documents to this directory at the moment, but we plan to add policies and procedures from other teams in a later release.

If you maintain any policies on the intranet, for corporate staff or schools, please get in touch with the intranet redesign team (intranet@eastriding.gov.uk) so we can work with you to get them put into our new directory.

The next step for these policies is to produce a quick view version of the policy, so you can get the pertinent facts at a glance without having to digest a full policy. This will be done in close collaboration with the policy holders.

Take a look at the new policies section, which you can also find from the search, or from the homepage under the ‘Corporate’ panel.

As always, we welcome your feedback. Please use the feedback tool at the bottom of the page or email us at intranet@eastriding.gov.uk

Have a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year!
