Reverse Advent Calendar response
Mon, 23 Dec 2019

Staff in the welfare visiting team have delivered items to a number of food banks in the region after a fantastic response from colleagues across the council as part of the Reverse Advent Calendar campaign.

Items have now been delivered to:

  • The Hinge, Bridlington
  • Christ Church, Bridlington
  • Churches Together, Driffield
  • Aldborough Food Bank
  • The Shores, Withernsea
  • Mission Trinity, Goole
  • Cottingham Food Bank
  • Toll Gavel Church, Beverley

Welfare visiting team leader Christine Craven said: “Last year I became aware of a campaign that the Trussell Trust were running called Reverse Advent Calendar, so our team, with an input from family and friends, managed to deliver food to a couple of local food banks.

“This year, we decided to go a little larger – I visited the food banks and they said they were short of personal hygiene items, so this became our main campaign. “

“We designed a poster for this year’s campaign which we sent to colleagues and the response was simply fantastic. Not only were we able to deliver food to eight food banks, we were also given £60 cash which we split between two food banks.”

The team also helped signpost people struggling financially, and with no means to buy food, to food banks, or collected it for them, prior to visiting them at home.
