Walking football sessions at East Riding Leisure South Holderness
Wed, 08 Jan 2020

The New Year will kick off in style at East Riding Leisure South Holderness as walking football sessions will run from January to early February.

The sessions, held at the leisure centre on Station Road, Preston (post code: HU12 8UY), will take place every Tuesday from Tuesday, 14 January to Tuesday, 11 February, from 6-7pm.

Walking football can help people lose weight, help prevent loneliness and positively affect overall mental and physical health. Aimed primarily at adults, it has social, mental and physical health benefits.

Adam Jamieson, community sports coach at the council, said: “A lot of us can struggle with a lot of things as we get older, and this can include balance, stamina, and self-esteem and confidence. Though through walking football, a lot of this can be regained.

“We can see that it helps with body strength building, muscle and core stability improvement and the loss of weight we can associate with the ageing process.”

Other benefits include giving an often isolated section of the community the chance to become involved in an activity to enjoy and make new friends, often making them feel less isolated and more part of the wider community.
