Help raise funds for Keane's life-changing trip to Ghana

The son of Samantha Heslop, wellbeing practitioner with the prevention and education team, is organising a fundraising event to help fund a once-in-a-lifetime, one-year trip to Ghana in autumn 2020.

Keane Heslop, 17, started on his adventure with the Project Trust, a charity that sends school leavers to countries for a gap year, in August 2019 when he spent five challenging days on the Isle of Coll, in the Scottish Hebrides, for a selection course.

He passed with flying colours and was offered by the trust the opportunity to travel to Ghana this year to live in a rural community in the Volta Region, where he can teach English, maths and a range of other subjects to school children.

However, to secure the placement, Keane needs to raise £6,200 for Project Trust and has already held a number of fundraising events, with a total raised since November last year standing at £2,600.

The next fundraising event will be held at The Spotlight Theatre in Bridlington on Saturday, 15 February, starting at 7.30pm. The show will include songs, dance and comedy sketches from members of the theatre, along with a homemade fudge stall and a raffle on the night.

Tickets for the event are on sale at bridspa.com and at The Spotlight Theatre, and Keane is looking for any donations for tombola and raffle prizes.
