Growing our social workers for the future: social work apprenticeship opportunity within adult services
Mon, 11 May 2020

Do you want to qualify as a social worker? Are you thinking about undertaking a social work degree? If so, we may have the perfect opportunity for you.

The council has an apprenticeship training levy fund which is available to existing staff to pay for nationally-recognised qualifications from level 2 right through to degree level.

A social work integrated degree apprenticeship (delivered by the University of Lincoln) is available and staff currently working in adults services, looking to develop their skills in this field, are encouraged to consider this exciting development opportunity.

The term 'apprenticeship' is typically associated with school leavers looking for their first step into the world of work but people of all ages can learn new skills at any stage in their working lives, regardless of age. The apprenticeship training levy fund provides more opportunities than ever before.

Details on the degree qualification can be found here.

The programme is planned to commence in September 2020* and learners working full time can expect to complete by June 2023. One place will be available within adult services - unfortunately we are unable to offer a place within children's services this year.

Due to the nature and level of qualification, the following entry criteria will apply:

You must:

  • Currently be working within adult services in a care coordinator role with at least 12 months service
  • Have achieved level 2 in English and Maths (GCSE grades A-C or equivalent)
  • Have achieved a level 3 qualification (in any subject) (A-level, Level 3 NVQ, Level 3 BTEC or equivalent).

Applications are now welcome - please find the application form here

Applications and copies of your qualification certificates should be returned to erycapprenticeshipservice@eastriding.gov.uk by close of business Wednesday, 1 July 2020.

There will be a shortlisting exercise followed by a final interview (in conjunction with the University of Lincoln) and we hope to have a final decision by August.

Although there will not be a face-to-face information session, please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions at erycapprenticeshipservice@eastriding.gov.uk Alternatively, please speak to to your team manager.

Key Points for Consideration:

  • You must have original copies of your qualification certificates. It is a person's own responsibility to obtain duplicate certificates or confirmation letters from awarding organisations - any costs incurred must be met by the individual.
  • Equivalency of GCSEs in English and Maths are considered in line with Education and Skills Funding Agency guidelines, applicable at the time of starting the apprenticeship. Qualifications that do not meet the Education and Skills Funding Agency guidelines will not be accepted.
  • International Qualifications can only be accepted in line with Education and Skills Funding Agency guidelines. Any may require formal assessment by UK-NARIC, which does incur a cost that has to be met by the individual.

* The University is planning to run this degree apprenticeship from late September 2020 but this will be subject to Government guidelines in light of COVID-19. The university and council remain confident but should the programme be delayed, we will update as soon as we can.
