Effects of fast food litter in the East Riding of Yorkshire consultation survey
Date
Thu, 31 Mar 2022
Description

The waste and streets development team are carrying out a consultation survey looking at the effects of fast food littering in the East Riding of Yorkshire.

The survey would like to gain opinions from residents, local businesses, visitors, and parish and town councils on the impact of littering in the area.

Helen Bedford, project officer - waste & streets, said: "Litter is a major issue for every local authority, with millions of pounds spent every year engaging with the public and cleaning up litter.

"The council spends around £3.9million per year cleaning up litter, and many residents feel strongly about the issue, with several volunteer litter picking groups in built-up areas such as Beverley, Hessle and Bridlington.

"A major contributor to the amount of litter on our streets, at our roadsides and in parks and play areas is waste dropped by customers of fast food outlets. This is often waste which could otherwise be easily recycled, affects the same communities in which these fast food outlets are based, and is very difficult to trace back when identifying who dropped it."

To complete the survey, please visit here. It is open to responses until Friday, 15 April 2022
