Description

The vulnerable children's education team is running a series of free one-day conferences in the summer term. These aim to help increase knowledge and understanding about children who may have deep-seated issues stemming from adverse childhood experiences.

Each conference will focus on a different key stage. All feature inspirational keynote addresses from renowned experts and a choice of workshops designed to help delegates increase the skills most relevant to their own roles.

The first conference, Be Curious not Furious - Relationships, Resilience and Regulation - is aimed at staff working with young people aged 11-18 and takes place on the 5 May.

The keynote speaker is Dave Whittaker, director of Learning for the Wellspring Academy Trust and author of The Kindness Principle. Dave's innovative work deals with the power of love, support and, in his own words, 'battering them with kindness'.

In June, two conferences will look at demystifying attachment and trauma. The 11 June conference is aimed at staff working with young children aged 0-5, and the 16 June is for staff working with primary aged children.

The keynote speaker for both of these sessions is Jenny Nock, a chartered psychologist and training consultant specialising in developmental / relational trauma and attachment in education and care settings.

Every child's start to life is different. It is the role of professionals to give every child, regardless of background, the chance to flourish, grow, and be the best they can be. Attending one of these conferences will help to increase your skills and understanding, challenge your way of thinking and ultimately make a difference for vulnerable children and young people.
