Headline
Call for feedback on procurement practices and social value
Date
Wed, 06 Apr 2022
Description

The regeneration and funding team in economic development is running a survey to gather input from colleagues who are involved in procuring or commissioning services on behalf of the council.

The team operates the Social Value Engine in partnership with economic consultancy agency Rose Regeneration.

The engine is an accredited, online tool that can be used to put a monetary value on the intangible social benefits of any project or service delivery.

The engine takes account of all Government Social Value Policy.

Through this survey the team would like to gain a better understanding of how colleagues go about procuring a new system or product for the council.

The regeneration and funding team will use input from the survey to refine the marketing approaches to external organisations and potentially increase the client base for the engine, as well as to consider how they can further embed social value practice across different public sector organisations.

Features of the Social Value Engine include:

Evaluate

A systemised and academically robust assessment of social value, for you to forecast, plan and evaluate your activities

Calculate Value

A description of how a project creates value with reference to the United Nations' 17 Sustainable Development Goals and Bristol Accord, and a ratio that states how much social value (in £) created for every £ of investment

Outcomes

More than 360 peer-reviewed financial proxies derived from reliable sources for a more robust calculation

Support

Full training and ongoing support to use the engine from a team that have over 30 years of social value experience collectively

Place-based

Helps you understand how your activities are making communities better places to live (sustainable communities)

The survey will take approximately 5 minutes to complete and will be live until 31 May 2022. Any questions should be directed to the social value team at socialvalueengine@eastriding.gov.uk.

Claire Watts, interim head of economic development at the council, said: "These type of surveys are really important in shaping the future policies and practices at the council and will provide valuable insight that our regeneration and funding team will use to promote the social value engine more effectively. I would encourage any member of staff at the council who is involved in procurement or commissioning of services to share their experience before the survey closes."
