Cycle to Work scheme spend limit increased to £3,000

Description

The council's Cycle to Work scheme will increase its spending limit to £3,000 this June, saving employees up to 42% off a new bike and accessories.

From 1 June the scheme is extending its pricing limit from £1,000 to £3,000, meaning employees could potentially save up to £1,200 on the price of a new bike. Along with the increased limit, staff also now have the option to choose between 12 and 18-month contracts for their Cycle to Work agreement.

The new spending limit will allow employees to save hundreds of pounds on a wide range of road, mountain, and e-bikes as well as an array of cycling accessories and clothing, making the environmental and mental benefits of cycling more accessible than ever.

The Cycle to Work scheme in partnership with Cycle Solutions, allows for employees to pay for a new bike and equipment through their wages every month. The bike is purchased by the council and employees pay back through their wages, before tax, pension and national insurance, meaning they are saving money on their purchase.

Members of staff had requested a raise to the previous scheme limit to better incorporate the price of e-bikes which could allow employees to commute to work from further distances.

As a result, the council have approved the new limit of £3,000 to offer staff a wider variety of quality bikes, e-bikes and accessories.

All council employees aged over 18 and on a minimum of a 12-month temporary contract, which does not expire before the agreement is likely to end, are eligible for the scheme, subject to national minimum wage checks.
