Make time to check your junk email folder!
Date
Mon, 04 Jul 2022
Description

Staff are reminded to regularly review messages in the junk email folder in Outlook, to check for legitimate messages which were incorrectly classified as 'junk'.

The Junk Email folder does not stop delivery of junk email but does move suspected spam to it.

Staff can review the folder by following the quick guidance below for both web and desktop versions of Outlook.

Web version

In the Folders tab on the left side of the screen (see image above) there is the 'Junk Email' folder. Select this and the messages stored within it appear on the right.

Click a message and if it is junk, delete it by selecting 'Delete' from the top bar or hover your mouse over the message and a trashcan icon will appear on the right side.

If the message is not junk, move it to your Inbox or any other folder created within Outlook. Simply drag and drop the message to the desired folder or right click on the message, select 'Move' and choose the folder.

Future emails from the sender can be prevented from being directed to your junk folder by right-clicking on the email and selecting 'Security options - Mark as not junk' (see above).

Some emails may be received with the blue hyperlinks (see above); only "show blocked content" if you are sure of the security of the email.

In the Folders tab on the left side of the screen you will see the 'Junk Email' folder (see above). Select the folder and the messages stored will appear on the right.

If a clicked message is 'junk', it can be deleted by selecting 'Delete' from the ribbon at the top of the window or hover your mouse over the message and a trashcan icon will appear on the right side.

If not junk, you can move it to your inbox or any other folder created within Outlook. To do this, simply drag and drop the message to the desired folder or right click on the message, select 'Move' and choose the folder.

You can prevent future emails from the sender being directed to your junk folder by right-clicking on the email and selecting 'Junk/Not Junk' (also shown in the above image).
